oh hey tim gunn

Sorry again for lack of post yesterday. My weekend was crazy busy, and I am still catching up on work from it. To catch up on a bit more from last week here is the portion of my weekend adventures in which I mentioned randomly finding a fashion celebrity in front of me...

Two Saturdays ago, when I was at the mall picking up a few things I turned the corner to find a giant stage set up out in front of Lucky Jeans and Nordstrom with Tim Gunn standing on it meeting people. I thought it was pretty entertaining since I quite enjoy some Project Runway. I did not however stand in line to meet him, 1) because Tiff did not want to and there was no way in hell I was waiting in that thing alone, and 2) most importantly I would never ever want a modern fashion icon to see my chipped finger nail polish! There were definitely some girls who got super dressed up to meet him. I could tell even from off stage that he was genuinely interested in the people he was meeting, even holding an older womans hands while they had a conversation. Thats what I like to see.

"Make it work". <--- I couldn't resist.

midweek inspiration 43

Today I am inspired by studs. I want to buy some up and put them on everything, like the following examples, particularly the iPhone case!! I also think some would look great on my black All Stars.

1) Black Studded Collar found via Pinterest (original source unknown).
2 & 3) Hand Made Studded Collars from Unicornology.
4) White Studded Phone Case found via Pinterest, from Fashion Wolf.
5) Studded White Converse All Stars from Sincerely Jules.
6) Spiked Phone Case found via Pinterest (original source unknown).

have you hugged your dreams today ?

Sorry for my absence yesterday, there are a lot of big things going on in my life right now that are biding for my time. Good big things. :) I will post more details when I can, but lets just say that I am finally building up my portfolio with some real projects.

And on that note... back to work. I will have more time for blogging throughout the week.

midweek inspiration 10

This weeks inspiration is more about a character and her clothing than anything else. I have mentioned the show Californication on several occasions... so at this point, it should come as no surprise that it is one of my favorites. Not only do I watch the show for its plot and heavily sarcastic dark humor, I watch for the character Karen (played by Natasha McElhone) and her killer style! I want to be like her when I grow up... she always looks like a rockstar, from her big hair, to her sequins, leather jackets, and aviators, she looks like someone who has had some fun in her life and has some stories to tell. Not your average soccer mom. She makes ripped up T-shirts and jeans look good.

That sequin tank top she has on in the bottom picture was worn all throughout season three and cemented my love for her style. All I need at this point is an extra long skirt for summer and I am good to go.

"why hello beautiful don't you look nice."

Another week gone by... Yay Friday!
This is going to be a busy weekend though, I have some freelancing to work on, and lots of robot costume making for Colleen's party next weekend. Bring it on silver spray paint! I am sure my fingertips will have a silvery sheen to them come Monday.

I took advantage of Modcloth's 'Cabin Fever' sale last week and am anxiously awaiting my purchases, I hope they come soon, because I am really excited for my new hat... pictures to follow when they arrive. But, what I am really excited for are the clothes I ordered last week from MNKR. Modcloth carried one of their oversized shirts a few months ago and ever since I got it for Christmas I have been in love. I am really into comfy warm oversized clothing this season. I went on their website to take a look and found two new things to love. They should be coming in the mail soon as well. The best part? Only $3 shipping, and reasonably priced clothing. Have a look for yourself.

[[  already own "hello again". i just ordered top left and bottom right. next time around i want the bottom left. i was trying to limit my spending though... ]]

They have great captions too...

"Why hello beautiful don't you look nice. Are those new shoes you're wearing?" - Bonjour Beau.

"Hello again. Why hello again yourself. Its been quite a while hasn't it? Sure has. How's school? Crazy busy. How's your studio? Busy as well. Been to the music box lately? Not since the last year. Remember that one show we saw there? Of course I do. That was fun. Yes it was. Well, it was great seeing you. You as well. I guess I'll see you around. I'm sure you will. Until then. Yes. Until then." - Hello Again.

nice threads.

Earlier this week I came home to find a giant F21 box with my name on it!! Granted I had ordered all of these items myself, but I was still excited. Thank you Christmas gift cards. Its not a terrible thing to be hard to shop for.

A few things are definitely going back to the store when I am in Portland this weekend... I feel like they have the most spastic sizing ever. I don't think that online shopping is tremendously kind to anyone. Though, I did recently do pretty good at Urban Outfitters when I was online shoe shopping for Tiffs wedding. Side note, I normally hate graphic tees, but the hoodie on the top right says "these are our glory days" and for some reason I just love it!

geometry

Oh my! This week is going by incredibly fast!!! I can't believe it is already Thursday night. I have been super busy at work, which makes my 8:30-5 over in a snap. I can't complain. It doesn't hurt that Megan was able to sneak on Skype and we killed some time talking about tattoos, one of my favorite subjects.

Also, today I wore this awesome sweater from F21... it is navy and grey, super cozy, not too tight, and I love the geometrical-ish pattern on the side. However, even a sweater is not enough to keep me warm outside, it was pretty chilly out. I pretty much always carry a scarf around with me these days (mostly that green one right there), and my hooded leather jacket was perfect for outside time today.

brrrrrr

I think I underestimated how much of a wimp I am when it comes to cold weather. I really need to invest in some good quality gloves, not mittens, and most importantly (since I have hand wear to tie me over) earmuffs!!! After all, it is hard to wear a knit hat when your hair is up like mine is now.

I found some really cool gloves that have a special material on the index finger that allows you to still use your iPhones, or other touch screen devices with the gloves on. This is a true necessity! I also love the idea of getting some cute leather like gloves for when i want to be a little bit more fancy. Finally, I cannot help but look at wool coats, even though I have two already (a black and a grey one). A white or patterned version would be nice to add to my collection.

[[ COATS: "caught on guard coat" - modcloth. "purple plaid majesty coat" - modcloth. "all warm and cozy coat" - modcloth. "first snow of the season coat" - modcloth. GLOVES: "classic leather gloves" in purple - urban outfitters. "zipper trim leather gloves" in black - target. "echo 'driver touch' wool blend gloves" in taupe, chartreuse, and lacquer red - nordstrom. "merona ruffle glove" in purple - target. EARMUFFS: "winter bloom earmuffs" in evergreen - modcloth. "ralph lauren cable knit earmuffs" in white - macys. ]]

I am not sold on either of these earmuffs... they are both a little on the pricey side, and I would prefer a nice grey. However, I am leaning highly towards a pair of the special touch screen gloves from Nordstrom in one of the following colors, and either of the leather pairs from Target (which are much more affordable than the Urban Outfitters version). The coats I just think are adorable... I am not sure I can justify buying one of them at the moment, though the white or black and white checkered versions would make great additions to my closet.

fall?

Another rainy day. Shocker. Its crazy how fast the switch can flip here! It was summer last weekend, and now it feels like we are full on into fall. ...I do like fall clothes though, scarfs, sweaters, jackets, boots, or just layering in general. And I love pretty much everything that smells or tastes like pumpkin spice, which I will soon be stocking up on. Yay!!
