youer than you

I really wanted to get part two of our house tour up today, but there is just no way. To maintain my sanity, I am going to do a short random post instead.

I am so so so unbelievably pumped that it is Friday right now!!! This week was, well, it was pretty much hell... Work was so busy that I never got a chance to gather my thoughts, or take lunches, or leave at the normal time, PLUS Pat has been gone all week in Canada so I have been super lonely. But that is all over now. Not only do I have this weekend completely off (no football), but I am leaving shortly and heading up to Portland to meet Meguenther and TiffWill for drinks on the Eastside (just for you Tiff). Then I get to pick up Pat at the airport (!!!). And finally, we are spending the weekend in Portland with friends. YAY!

Anyway, I need to finish packing, tidy up the place a little bit, and eat 'lunch' before I head out the door, so that is it for me. Have an awesome weekend.

our 'new' place (tour) :: part I

Me and Pat moved in to our own place back in June right before we went on our New York trip, but I have not done a post yet to show our little house off. Any new home is always a work in progress, but I like the way things are coming along. A few more empty spaces and blank walls to fill and it will be perfectly imperfect in no time. (This will be a two part post).

living room
Our living room is a huge mish mash of misc. items we have collected over the years, and some of our favorite books and things. We have Egyptian prints, masks from the Bahamas, a Tahitian weapon, and Mayan inspired calendars from Mexico all hanging on the wall. I use antique glass candy dishes to collect misc. items like keys and sunglasses on the glass table by the front door. I also have two lawn gnomes up there to greet people, (we have had issues with them being stolen in the past). We also have some of my random paintings spread throughout the house. And what living room would be complete without a ton of classic novels, design books, comics, an antique typewriter, an assortment of Buddha figurines, and a painted sugar skull? (The brass carousel figure I have has since I was a little girl).

kitchen // dining room
A kitchen is a kitchen. Pretty standard. Although, Pat has a pretty impressive collection of Rogue bottles that adorn the top of our cabinets. (Thank you high ceilings). The kitchen is pretty small, but we love our island and all of the open space! We used two skinny bookshelves to display all of our glassware (wine glasses and such) and to serve as our liquor cabinet, as well as to display some more of Pats bottles.

the office
Though Pat would like to point out that I do not actually work in my offices that much, I do love having them to display all of my projects and store my art supplies. I have been wanting one of these bookshelves from Ikea for a long time, and I finally went and got one for myself. It is perfection. A great place for all of my random items. (And of course, hanging above the shelf is our signed Deftones album and prized possession).

midweek inspiration 21

I have been finding all kinds of great prints on Etsy lately. It makes me super jealous of other peoples talents! These are some super awesome illustrations from Canadian artist Paule Trudel Bellemare, (found on her Etsy shop). I am really in love with these and hope she keeps putting more up! I am especially intrigued by the zodiac series.

busy. busy. busy.

I have this tendency to have a million ideas/projects going on at one time! There are never enough hours in the day for all of the little things I want to do for myself on top of those I am working on at my job, so sometimes certain things get pushed back to make way for more pressing ones.

Among some posts I have coming up this week, I am also working on updating my Flickr, getting caught up on Facebook photos (which does not sound like a big deal, but I have been slacking all summer, and now people are harassing me), Updating my blog design a bit, getting the wedding invites I did posted, etc, etc, etc. Oh yea, and just having a life in general. A million things!

Here are a few snapshots of some real and conceptual projects in the works. It is about all I can muster up for the day.

Ok. Now, back to work.

summer recap '11

Well folks, I think summer has come to an official end. I find it really really REALLY hard to believe that it is almost October already... but today was the first real fall weather day we have had around here since summer got its late start. Today was also the first day of school for all the Oregon colleges, which means summer vacay has come to an end.

I figured since I don't have too many weekend adventures I want to share that I would do a little summer recap.

sushisushisushi

I will keep this short and sweet. Last night me and Pat went out for Sushi at Tokyo, and it was delicious! Yummm. I actually remembered to snap a few pictures this time. My favorite roll of theirs has mango and unagi, it is very unique. We also love love love their shrimp udon and always share a giant bowl. Not too shabby for an impromptu date night.

Tomorrow is the second home football game, which I will be working at... and Sunday I have to bring Pat to the airport because he is going on a business trip to Canada. :( <--- sad face. It is boring in this small town without my love.

weekend adventures 41

Last weekend was a little bit happy and a little bit sad, but I was happy to have an old and a new friend to keep me company and help cheer me up on Sunday. Thank you so much Megan and Bronx!

saturday
Pat had made super secret plans with our friend Alicia to meet her and her husband Nate for some wine tasting. It was part of Alicia's anniversary gift to him. In the morning we got up, ready, and headed up to Carlton for an adventure. It was rainy on and off all day and not super warm, but we still made the best of the day venturing to various tasting rooms and even having a little picnic lunch with delicious veggies and snacks from Alicia's garden. Since me and Pat got such an early start and the two of them were staying at a hotel for the night, we headed home around dinner time.

saturday night
My friend Megan had been contemplating coming down to Corvallis for the weekend all week long... and finally I convinced her to head out and bring her new love with her as a surprise for Pat. Megan is very impulsive (she disagrees), and one morning I got an email from her saying "Guess what... I got a puppy yesterday." What!? Was my response, because I had not even heard her talking about it before. Apparently she went to the Humane Society, fell in love, and the rest is history. Anyway, I was super excited to meet the little guy, Bronx, who is part black lab, part pit bull, and all the way adorable.

Pat is obsessed with puppies and we plan on getting one of our own someday, so I did not tell him she was coming because I wanted it to be a surprise. His reaction was priceless. Megan walks in the door with puppy in tow and yells "Surprise!". Pat goes "Oh, hey." with NO reaction what so ever because he is playing video games. So I go "Hey Pat, I think you missed something." and immediately he yells, "Puppy!". The rest of the night was made up of drinks, our friend Rory coming by with his puppy Harlow and his lady, puppy play time, Mario Kart for Nintendo 64, and the movie Clueless. We did not go to bed until about 4:30 in the morning. Ugh.

sunday (johni day)
Sunday Sept 18th, 2011 was exactly one year after our friend Johni passed away, so me and Pat wanted to do/eat/watch some things that reminded us of her. I mentioned all of the specifics in my post on Monday which was dedicated to her, but for a summary: Flight of The Concords, Tangled, cornbread, outside time, Alice in Wonderland, and A Lion Among Men. I would like to come up with a little something every year to remember her by. I definitely did a fair share of crying... but since puppy was around, I had a bit of a distraction and was able to play a little bit. I am sure she would have preferred it that way.

[[ still shots from imdb. chili and cornbread for dinner. ]]

Though most of the day consisted of laying around watching movies and playing with the pups, it was a gorgeous day outside, so me and Megan took Bronx out for a nice little walk, slash longboard ride. He is the laziest puppy I have ever seen! Megan grabbed his leash and instead of getting all excited to walk, he started chewing on it and coaxing her in to a game of tug-o-war. THEN to get him to come outside she had to pick him up and set him on the ground in the front yard. What a weirdo. However, once I hopped on my board and we started going he because fascinated with the wheels and was much more inclined to walk, or chase, me. He even tried to hop on a few times and allowed me to set him on the board and push him for a minute! He will be a little skateboarding pooch in no time. Below are some pictures of out little outdoor excursion with the pups.

happy birthday proper lady !

Today it is my sister Leah's 29th birthday. Happy Birthday Leho!

I seriously do not remember where this whole notion of "proper ladies" came from, but we are always saying that to each other (often in poorly executed British accents). When I turned 25 Leah told me I was no longer allowed to drink too much and dance on tables since I was 26... I informed her that I was only 25, and therefor had another year to do so. However, I have decided that as long as we are able we shall "drink champagne and dance on the table" all we want. Even if we are "proper ladies".

Miss you. Love! I hope you are having a great day with super secret, or epic, birthday plans. Check out the super sweet bday card I made for you... Proper indeed.
