Sorry again for lack of post yesterday. My weekend was crazy busy, and I am still catching up on work from it. To catch up on a bit more from last week here is the portion of my weekend adventures in which I mentioned randomly finding a fashion celebrity in front of me...

Two Saturdays ago, when I was at the mall picking up a few things I turned the corner to find a giant stage set up out in front of Lucky Jeans and Nordstrom with Tim Gunn standing on it meeting people. I thought it was pretty entertaining since I quite enjoy some Project Runway. I did not however stand in line to meet him, 1) because Tiff did not want to and there was no way in hell I was waiting in that thing alone, and 2) most importantly I would never ever want a modern fashion icon to see my chipped finger nail polish! There were definitely some girls who got super dressed up to meet him. I could tell even from off stage that he was genuinely interested in the people he was meeting, even holding an older womans hands while they had a conversation. Thats what I like to see.

midweek inspiration 32

glasses on the mind. 

I am on the hunt for the perfect pair of frames! I hate wearing my glasses, so I am looking around to find a new pair that I am more excited about. These ladies look adorable in theirs, that is what I am going for.

I got contacts in high school but did not get a pair of glasses until about two years ago and have never gotten completely used to wearing them. So, I am looking for a new pair of frames that I can wear out and feel comfortable. This is not an easy task, but several online shops around the web, such as Warby Parker and Bon Look, make it a bit easier to browse. I wish Bon Look offered an at home try on program like Warby Parker though! I currently have my first five pairs at home (from WP), but am not particularly thrilled with any of them, so I am going to send them back and order a new trial set asap. Fingers crossed this time.

a few christmas extras

To wrap up the last of my Christmas posts,  I thought I would show off some of my favorite new things off of my Christmas list or not.

From Pat
Pat got me everything off of my Christmas list, the silly necklace, a new pair of earrings, and even both of the Gnome Enterprises shirts I asked for. I have to switch out the size on the fox t-shirt, but I cannot wait to wear it! The love bunnies I have already worn several times.

From Dad
I got my Urbanears headphones in Pool the color I wanted!! They are better than expected! They sound great, are comfy, seem really durable, and have an awesome volume control/pause button right on the tangle free chord which I love. They also have a port where someone else can plug right in for a listen, and they fold up to fit nicely in a small purse. I also got one of the shirts I asked for from MNKR, "Travel More, Work Less", which looks great in person. If only I could wear it to work...

From Mom
The mirror jewelry box I have been coveting is finally mine! I rearranged everything on top of my dresser to make space for it and it looks so pretty holding all of my little nicknacks. I have wanted this for years but never asked for it. I am happy to have one of my very own now. Sorry Meguenther, I am a copy cat. I also got the gloves I asked for, and me and Pat scored some new books from the Barnes & Noble Leatherbound Classics Collection: The Count of Monte Cristo, Swiss Family Robinson, and a few others. We even got some coffee for our Keurig, and gift cards, (I am using mine to get a hard case/shell for my new computer).

From Leah
I got the most random gifts from Leah, but I love all of them! 1) A Catbird canvas bag. Catbird being the store that I fell in love with when we went shopping in Brooklyn. 2) Sweater shorts... they are shorts... short shorts... made out of sweater material. I have honestly worn them several times already. 3) Toast Coasters. Pretty self explanatory, coasters in the shape of toast, they are the cutest things ever.

From Jenna/Meagan/Stockings
From Jenna, a UO Ducks Tshirt. Rude! Don't be surprised when you get this regifted for your birthday Jenna! HA! This year we decided to draw names for stockings and Meagan (Santa) had mine which contained Hello Kitty socks, a ring, earmuffs, and a pretty beanie. :) I did Jenna's and got her some silly little things from Urban like a super epic twisty straw, party camera, and DIY alphabet banner. Pat had Nic who we got The Abide Guide book, an awesome Hangover bobble head, and a few other things. Pat ended up scoring some Nintendo candy and beer paraphernalia from Johnny, he was a happy camper.

I have a present for Meguenther, and TiffWill, but we have not gotten together yet to exchange them. They are sitting in my office waiting for a get-together.

I also made hexnut fishtail bracelets for my sisters with suede straps. They turned out pretty good, although I never did figure out a proper way to clasp them. Hopefully they like them, I know my little Meagan did, (no surprise there). I still need to make one for myself to photograph.

Like I have mentioned before, I just do not understand the necessity to stand outside in lines all night long for a few sales, I think I would rather spend a bit more and save myself the trouble. That being said, I do love a good sale... So while everyone was watching football after Thanksgiving dinner, I was doing some online shopping to see if there was anything good going on. Modcloth succeeded in sucking me in and I did order a few more goodies for myself, as well as some presents for my bestest friends. I just couldn't help it with such good prices. Of course, the images below are not of the gifts, those I will keep a secret for now.

Another "Black Friday" sale I took advantage of was over at Adobe. I was able to order the new CS5.5 upgrades for my new, though not yet purchased, computer, for $200 off the original list price. $499 instead of $699? Please and thank you.

I have been eyeing the "Bear Bottle Opener" from Modcloth since they first posted it months and months ago, but sadly it had been out of stock. So, when I got an email saying they had it back I jumped online to order it! Of course I could not just buy one little bottle opener without a few other things now could I? I also got an awesome t-shirt with narwals on it and a cuff bracelet to even out my order.

I just got my package complete with adorable packaging and a free gift (little Modcloth pins)! I am super excited to wear my new goodies and install my opener, everything looks great in person!

new york new york :: part 12 :: the extras

I have been working on these New York posts for so long that it almost feels surreal to be finishing up tonight. But alas, we have come to a close. This post is not about a day or event, these are pictures of all of the little somethings we accumulated along the trip. A documentation of our souvenirs if you will. Though most of the items are for me, some are birthday presents for my friend Meguenther who told me that I better bring her back something fancy! (Since I am giving them to her tomorrow it does not matter to me much what she sees tonight).

1. Almost all of the restaurants and stores in NYC paper clipped their bills to post cards, so, once I caught on to this I started collecting them. Here are a few together. 

2. Items from BookMarc, the Marc Jacobs bookstore that also sells some of his accessories. I got myself a skull necklace (sorry Leah, I am a copycat), and got a silly condom for someone else. Yes, thats right, they sell special condoms there. 

3. Treasures from CatBird (by FAR my favorite shop!). I got myself a magnifying glass necklace, a tiny ceramic heart box, and a silly little coin for Pat. Ironically the heart box is the perfect place for my engagement ring when I take it off in the morning to get ready. I bought this three days before the proposal. It was the best $10 ever spent! The staff there was also nice enough to gift wrap everything for me, so I got some unique packaging to keep as well! The next time I am in NY I am definitely returning here. 

4. I got the gold skull ring, aviators, and industrial necklace from TopShop in Soho. They had a ton of accessories I wanted in there, but alas, I had to exert some self control. The necklace, even though not even close to the shape, makes me think of bullet shells. 

5. Next are items from the street vendors in Soho when we returned on our second to last day. I got the pocket watch style necklace, the spiky bracelet, and the beetle/scarab ring from a few different stands. The ring is my new favorite accessory and I try to wear it as much as possible. I have gotten a ton of compliments from guys actually on this one. 

6. Shopping bags. 

7. The AWESOME chopsticks I bought in China Town our second day! I was so excited about these!! I have wanted my own for a while, and I suppose this is about as legit as you can get. Plus, they are lovely, and came in a beautiful red box with usage and cleaning instructions. 

8. It is hard to leave NYC without something with the official logo on it. These however are not for me. Call them a perfect souvenir slash house warming present for someone special who happens to love New York. 

9. Some tickets from our many adventures. Various museums, a baseball game, the subway, and even a plane ticket. Yankee tickets close up are in the second frame. Those pins below are from The Met. They give them to you to wear as you tour. 

10. Our collection of Metro cards from the Subway. A week long pass is definitely the way to go. We hardly spent any money on transportation. 

11. "Jews for Jesus"? A random 'interactive' handout. SO so random! Loved it! 

12. Our pocketbooth pictures taken Sunday night at the beer garden in Brooklyn. I wish we would have taken more of these. I love them so much!




Well, I said it once, or perhaps even twice, and I will say it again, BEST TRIP EVER! I had so much fun on this week long adventure to the opposite coast and cannot wait to do it again sometime! I got to go to so many amazing places, meet great new people, spend time with my favoritest older sister, take over 1200 pictures, and of course... get engaged to my man! I had a blast documenting everything, and am so happy with the way it all turned out. These posts are for me above all, and will be great to look back on in the future. uh oh shoes...

Oh man I am awful at posting lately! Maybe it is due to being sick, or just busy, but I have not been blogging as regularly as I have in the past. I almost forgot a post for tonight...

I am currently working on wedding invitations, watching my first season DVD of "That 70s Show" (disk 1), and contemplating the purchase of some new shoes from F21, (don't worry Pat! I have a gift certificate. Thank yooou Karen). I have been pretty bored with my heels lately, and wanted something a bit more fun. I definitely want some platforms for summer, tan preferably, but I have not found the right ones yet. For now, I think these grey suede wedges will do the trick. I am also sort of a sucker for these leopard ones though... uh oh. The platforms I love, but am not sure I could actually walk in, so I think I will pass on those for now. I wish that I had some of the shoes that Jackie wears on the show!! She always has the cutest boots or wedges on. I would take some of Hyde's band shirts as well!

Another week gone by... Yay Friday! 

This is going to be a busy weekend though, I have some freelancing to work on, and lots of robot costume making for Colleen's party next weekend. Bring it on silver spray paint! I am sure my fingertips will have a silvery sheen to them come Monday. 

I took advantage of Modcloth's 'Cabin Fever' sale last week and am anxiously awaiting my purchases, I hope they come soon, because I am really excited for my new hat... pictures to follow when they arrive. But, what I am really excited for are the clothes I ordered last week from MNKR. Modcloth carried one of their oversized shirts a few months ago and ever since I got it for Christmas I have been in love. I am really into comfy warm oversized clothing this season. I went on their website to take a look and found two new things to love. They should be coming in the mail soon as well. The best part? Only $3 shipping, and reasonably priced clothing. Have a look for yourself.

weekend adventures 19 :: t&j wedding

I usually don't post these so late in the week, but I could not decide if I wanted to do one or not since everything is all about the wedding, which I will have an additional post for tomorrow. Anyway, last weekend I went up to the base of Mt. Hood to celebrate Tiff & Jason's wedding! It was a really fun, cold, and super busy weekend.


friday
I took Friday off so that I would be able to get to Portland in the morning and ride with Tiff to the mountain. Thinking that we were leaving at 11, I got up super early, took a shower, grabbed my bags, and ran out the door. As it turns out we did not end up getting up to the resort until late afternoon instead. I rode in the back seat with Tiff, Cooper (her puppy), luggage, and a box full of succulents.

We hung out for a little while after check in, but then I had to rush off to my room with Ashley Mellott, another one of Tiffs bridesmaids, to get ready for the rehearsal dinner. (I was really excited about wearing a new dress that I purchased from Modcloth for the occasion). The rehearsal was totally surreal..... I met all of the groomsmen for the first time, and then there we were practicing walking down the aisle. When Tiff and Jason finally came down and practiced everything got really really real all of the sudden. I remember thinking "oh my god, she is actually getting married tomorrow!" What is completely remarkable to me though is the fact that Tiff was completely calm the whole time. I think I would have been freaking out.

After practice we headed to a place in the tiny town called ZigZag for dinner, which J's parents were hosting. There was so much unhealthy food there oh my god. Pizza was one of the appetizers.... I stuck to salad. By the time all of this was over I was seriously so exhausted that all I wanted to do was pass out, so all the girls in the wedding party ditched out early to get some sleep.

I shared a room with two of the other bridesmaids, both named Ashley... so we had to ration out the shower and bathroom so that everyone had enough time to get ready for the day. Us girls all met up for breakfast at the hotel, and then it was off to the Bridal Suite to start getting our hair and makeup done. Tiff obviously went first because her and Jason had some private pictures scheduled at one. She was wearing this beautiful robe that her sister bought her while we were getting ready and looked so gorgeous and happy. Seeing her in her dress, with all of her jewelry and makeup done was seriously amazing. She looked so pretty!!! After Tiff left the makeup artist started on everyone else. I was so happy to have someone there to help me with my hair and put fake eyelashes on me! I am super bad at it myself. Last we threw on our bridesmaid dresses and headed out the door to get our pictures taken!

It was seriously FREEZING outside!!! All we had were some pashminas to keep our shoulders warm, so we were pretty much all shaking the whole time... but the lighting was beautiful and I am so excited to see the pictures! Tiff had a fur that she got at an estate sale draped over her shoulders and with her long white dress and the misty air she reminded me of the ice queen from The Chronicles or Narnia.

The ceremony itself was kind of a blur for me. Between trying not to fall down or make silly faces when coming down the aisle to trying not to cry when they were saying their vowels, I was a bit preoccupied. I didn't even look around to try and find Pat because I was afraid I would honestly start crying if I even moved slightly. I guess the whole time he was staring at me smiling because he could totally tell I was trying to hold it in. Before I knew it we were back out in the hallway, and they were officially husband and wife.

The reception was really fun! I was super excited to see Francisco, who had flown in from California for the wedding! And all of my other friends I had not seen in a while, like Hunter. We all drank, ate, danced, laughed a lot, and took a ton of pictures. At one point the DJ threw on the "Bernie" song... per Jason's request... and we all had to dance "The Bernie Dance". It is seriously ridiculous. One of the stupidest things I have ever seen, but it was highly entertaining. If you don't know what I am talking about here is the youtube video, and here is a post from Mucho Mucho Bueno Bueno about the dance.

Tiff and her family did a great job with the treats and decorations. There was even a candy bar complete with Peanut M&Ms (my favorite) and Ring Pops!

Another cool thing about the reception was how awesome and sweet Pat was being. Pat does not dance, ever... except for at weddings. So, I finally got to dance with him, which was awesome! He also looked damn sexy all dressed up, which I do not get to see very often. (Pat would get mad if I did not mention that it is him all dressed up I seldom get to see... He brings a 'healthy dose of sexy' everyday).

Afterwards we went back to one of the larger hotel rooms to hang out for a little bit, but everyone was pretty much passing out, so it was off to bed.

In the morning we all packed up and met for breakfast at the hotel. Tiff and Jason were supposed to meet us there, but instead spent all morning dealing with security and police after discovering that someone broke into their room and stole a bunch of their belongings. Seriously messed up! I wrote a rant about it on Monday.

Me and Pat were originally planning on going further up the mountain to play in the snow, but we were pretty exhausted and not really in the mood, so instead we headed to Bridgeport in Beaverton to do some shopping with our eyes at the furniture stores. We found so much kitchen stuff we want and the perfect couch at Crate and Barrel, and the perfect bed(s) and a ceramic deer head I seriously want at Z Gallery. We really need our own place and money for these things asap! Before heading home we grabbed some dinner at PF Changs, and that was that. I love our long rides home together because we always have the best conversations.

Last weekend was actually pretty productive... Me and Pat took a evening trip to Ikea for some new furnishings. I cleaned, reorganized, and redecorated the living room and kitchen. Pat built a coffee table. And we still managed to have people over for a little party and attend a gymnastics meet.

Friday after work me and Pat headed over to the Oregon State University Gymnastics Pink Out, which is a meet that supports Breast Cancer fundraising. Our friend Jen Kesler is on the team and was one of the competing gymnasts and she did a really good job! I love watching gymnastics, it is seriously amazing what people can do. I can hardly balance on one foot despite taking Yoga classes in the past.

Pat had to go in to work early on, so by the time he got done it was already well into the afternoon. As soon as he got home we set out for our long drive to Ikea. Though Portland may only take about an hour and a half, this was all the way out by the airport and made for a much longer drive. It is worth it though, we always have fun and end up coming home with lots of reasonably priced stylish items! This was no exception. We got a new coffee table, a brown shag rug, a framed alphabet poster I have been wanting to get my hands on for a long time, several picture frames, and some swedish meatballs... yes, meatballs. They are delicious I promise.

We did not get home until almost ten and by that time there were already some people over at our house for a little party, so we promptly stashed our goodies to the side and joined in.

Me and Pat started an organizing frenzy in the morning and found a great new use for some old bookshelves... but more on that later. Throughout the rest of the day I reorganized the kitchen, turning all of the newly acquired cabinet space into a proper pantry, and hung up some new and old artwork. Pat got home and him and Tony built our new coffee table and we set up the rug. Now our living room actually looks almost like a real grownup living room, instead of a jumble of college furnishings... (which are now in the back room where they belong). Aside from the couch which we are still stuck with for now. I will have to devote an entire post to our mini living room makeover.

Finally after all that, the roomates all went to dinner at Block 15, drank some beer (soda for hayden), ate some burgers (turkey for me), and played with chalk. A very productive and delicious Sunday.

Last weekend was short, but i packed a lot of fun little activities into it. There was a lot of driving. A torrential downpour. An extensive cheesecake hunting. Downtown misadventures. An accidental... date night? Antique shopping. And dinner with Pats family.

Friday was not eventful. I was home in corvallis frantically trying to finish up Tiffany's wedding gift and get to bed soon enough to get up early with little consequence. This did not happen. Though I did complete her gift, which was after all, the most important part of my evening. More on that tomorrow.

Tiffany's Bridal Shower was in the afternoon at her parents house in Gresham, which by the way is sooooo far out there, I seriously thought we were driving to another country! I got up early (with not much sleep), got ready, and headed to Beaverton to pick up Megan, and a cheesecake. Little did I know I was about to have a 'super fun' adventure. According to Tiffanys sister Alicia, I was supposed to bring a cheesecake and some cherries to the party... This turned out to be no easy task. Me and Megan visited and called about eight different grocery stores throughout Portland, Beaverton, and Gresham before FINALLY finding the cake right before the party only to discover that someone else brought one already. It was highly entertaining however running around all over the place in the rain, in dresses, trying not to get soaked. I am sure we looked like idiots sharing our tiny umbrella while cursing Paula Dean for stealing Oregon's cheesecake surplus (the most logical explanation for the lack of cake).

Moving on... the shower was really nice, there were little snacks and lots of little dogs to play with. One in particular I wanted to steal. So cute. Tiff got a TON of kitchen items, a beautiful robe, a Shakeweight, and some Snuggies for her and Jason. Megan got her a super sparkly scrapbooking album (I noticed that you do that when we were first hanging out, hopefully you still do!) and I gave her my painting.

Me and Megan met back up with Tiffany and her fiance Jason for a drink and some silliness before deciding to go downtown and get some drinks. It was POURING and extremely windy. We parked as close as we could to Vault martini bar, which was NOT close, and then braved the trek to the bar. Unfortunately it was filled with... lets say, not really our crowd... so we took off and decided to head over to the East side for something a little more mellow. We ended up at a bar called The Sapphire Hotel. It was really cute and little, decorated with lanterns, peacock feathers, and minimal lighting. After we were there for a while though I noticed that we were literally the only non couple in the place...... so maybe it was our date night? I wonder if they thought we were on a date... silly. It was a perfect mellow Saturday night though.

I packed up my stuff, grabbed Megan, and we headed back over to the East side to hit up the vintage shops on Hawthorne! I have been wanting to go again for a really long time. We both got some goodies. I picked up a poster (soon to be framed and hung in my entrance area), a dress, some sweet necklaces, old Life magazines (for my dad), a birthday present for Colleen, a pair of Oxfords, a souvenir for Pat, and a sweet vintage colored glass candy bowl for my nail polish stash! Finally we took off and I headed to Salem to meet Pats family for dinner, and that was pretty much my weekend. Not too shabby.

Since seeing my polish/candy bowl in action, Pat has forbidden me from purchasing any more nail polish... yea right.

Earlier this week I came home to find a giant F21 box with my name on it!! Granted I had ordered all of these items myself, but I was still excited. Thank you Christmas gift cards. Its not a terrible thing to be hard to shop for.

A few things are definitely going back to the store when I am in Portland this weekend... I feel like they have the most spastic sizing ever. I don't think that online shopping is tremendously kind to anyone. Though, I did recently do pretty good at Urban Outfitters when I was online shoe shopping for Tiffs wedding. Side note, I normally hate graphic tees, but the hoodie on the top right says "these are our glory days" and for some reason I just love it!
