lakeside hike

Over the weekend me and Pat decided to stay close to home and go for a little hike on the Eagle Crest property. Compared to Smith Rock it was definitely a short and easy one, and turned out to have one hell of a panoramic view. I am thinking this would make a pretty decent picnic spot, no? Hopefully you are not getting sick of mountain pictures yet... (These are from Saturday 3/9).

lakeside hike preview

On Saturday morning (3/9) me and Pat decided to go for a little local hike right on the Eagle Crest property that we had heard about. It was pretty short, sweet, and yielded some amazing panoramic views of the area. I took a bunch of pictures which I will post tomorrow, but here is a little preview of a few pictures I took on my phone in the meantime.

velvet, sushi, and ice cream

After work last Friday we decided to go out for some drinks and sushi. We got downtown a little earlier than we were ready to eat, so I took Pat to a little bar called Velvet that I have been to a few times now. I love the atmosphere there, its super cozy, trendy, has some really interesting cocktails, and always has a loop of snowboarding videos playing in the background. I got the Oregonic, and it was delicious.

Afterward we went to dinner at a place called Boken we had not checked out yet. We ordered a bunch of different sushi rolls to try: the Borracho y Loco (soft shell crab/salmon/unagi), the Geisha (spicy scallop/crab), and the Bangkok (spicy shrimp).

The combinations were all really unique, and everything was good, but we felt that the proportions were a little bit lacking so I don't think that this place would be my first choice for sushi at a higher price point. One thing they did have however, was homemade ice cream in some delicious and strange combinations. We ordered a raspberry sake, and a habanero blueberry (I believe) that were both amazing. If nothing else, I would definitely come back just for the desert. I also wish I would have taken some pictures.

I think in the future if I want to spend some money on sushi I wil go to 5 Fusion, but I would totally go back to Boken try some of their noodle dishes, and of course, more ice cream combos.

snow birds

Here are a few pictures of some birds from our little birding adventure... snow geese and swans I believe. Sorry these are not the best pictures, it was pretty hazy and dark, and I should probably get around to teaching myself how to take better pictures in low light one of these days. I also took a few shots of the snow the following morning.

k falls

I spent a few days last week in Klamath Falls for work, and though we were mostly in meetings around the resort, we did sneak out in the evenings to explore a little bit of the area.

On Tuesday we went to a pizzeria and bar called Mia & Pias but were not overly impressed with anything they had there, including the locals... so we moved on to The Creamery instead which was a lot more fun and had some pretty decent beers and snacks for us to enjoy. On Wednesday we had meetings with some of the local birders and actually went out to do a little "bird watching" in the evening. It was cold and hazy all day so it was a little hard to get great shots, but I did get a few decent ones, which I will edit and post tomorrow. When we woke up Wednesday morning the area was covered in snow and gorgeous and looked much different than it had on Tuesday. Before we took off I snapped a few pictures of the pretty snow, which I will also post tomorrow. It was a super quick and busy trip, but I look forward to visiting again in the spring when the weather is a little nicer.

a quick trip

I just arrived in Klamath Falls where I am going to be spending a few days for work. My observations thus far are that it is a very small town in a very pretty natural setting, especially where we are staying. I will be back to blogging next week, but for now, here is the current view from my suite.

Have a great week!

worthy

On Saturday me and Pat checked out Worthy Brewing, which is the newest brewery to open up a restaurant in town. The place was packed, as expected, but the beer was good, the atmosphere was pretty sweet (lots of custom tile details), and the food was delicious. I can't wait for the summertime when their outdoor beer garden opens up because it is a huge space. We will definitely be back again.
